Since discovering makeup at 24, it became a huge part of my life. I never go to work without it anymore. I wear makeup on weekends, too, if I need to go somewhere public. I try to go makeup-free for one day a week, mainly to make my skin rest a little bit. That day I either hang around the house, go to the gym or grocery shopping. No public appearances. And although makeup has definitely become my crutch, I am still old me underneath it, and I don't want to develop a fear of seeing myself without it. So, I decided to post these Before and After pics of myself. After all, I only look unusual without makeup to myself -- I find that other people are not nearly as critical.
I pride myself on the way I can make myself look. The above look is for going to the mall on a Saturday, and it is a bit heavier than I would wear to work (although, not by much). I overdid it with the eyeliner, and robbed myself of the already limited eyelid space. But it doesn't look bad. I guess you can see that to have a feature on my face, I need to draw it on. I am one of those people who doesn't have a 5-minute face, and going without eye brows, mascara, blush, foundation or lipstick is not an option.
I used Cle de Peau #307 eye shadow palette for this look, with Laura Mercier eye shadow brushes. The LM brushes are definitely not required, but I was feeling matchy-matchy with my eye brushes.
The closeup of the makeup. The outer "V" is the purple (not a very vibrant color) mixed with the dark bronze from the palette, but it's hard to tell on the picture. I also used Tarina Tarantino purple eyeliner pencil, but it is also quite muted and translates more like a grey one.
It is not a bad palette. The colors are classy and not overly exaggerated. However, the price! I bought a refill for $55, and it came in a small clear plastic with a top. But the plastic was annoying me, so I bought a case with little brushes I never use. The case was $25 (rip off!). So, $80 for a small quad is was too steep. Me being me, who loves multiples, I have 4 different Cle de Peau quads... . Anyways, I don't think I'll buy any more of these. I just don't think they are worth that kind of price. In their defense, though, the colors are quite classy, have a nice sheen, don't have sparkles, and I can see why mature women would like them. I bought these quads after raving reviews from some professional makeup bloggers. I would rave about the quads, too, if they were free.
What about you, girls? Do you depend on makeup the way I do?
Did you try any Cle de Peau eye shadows? What do you think?
